![]() ![]() In my lab experience, 10 neighbors is a good number. From this, normals are calculated for the mesh. The 10 represents the number of points used to estimate the tangent plane at each point set. On the first webpage it is shown step by step tutorial how by using FreeCAD software, a STL model can be opened, converted to the shape from mesh and saved to STEP format. As stated, this function is good for meshing without exploiting the triangle connectivity and is useful for datasets without faces. Click on Filters -> Normals, Curvatures and Orientation -> Compute Normals for Point Sets.If you zoom up, you will see it consists of a lot of points like the image below. Now you should see the point cloud similar to the image below. The input could be from a laser scanner, and the output is meant for a 3D printer. Here are some MeshLab x-rays showing the original body assembly, the internal surfaces that we identified using this method & the final model, featuring just the external surfaces. Going back to our hot hatch example, the internals represented 63% of all the faces in the model, well worth deleting in my book. You can now export the “no internals” mesh & go to SHM, or do some extra cleanup (or merge everything back together & have another go) – up to you.Īlternatively, if you want to keep the internal faces, just throw the outer surfaces away after Step 4 instead.
